- Marlin: Marlin is a clownfis whose wife coral dies in an attempt to save their four hundred eggs from a barracuda. Only one egg(Nemo) manages to survive and marlin raises Nemo on his own.
- Dory: Dory is a regal tang thatMarlin bumps into while pursuing the boat that is carrying his son Nemo. In this first meeting, Dory reveals that she suffers from short term memory loss. Dory accompanies Marlin in his search for his son and her lack of short term memory provid much of the films comic.
- Nemo: Nemo is Marlin son and the sole survivor of the barracuda attack. Damage to his egg left one of Nemo’s fins smaller than the other uffecting his ability to swim. Marlin refers to Nemo’s misshapen fin as his lucky fin when Nemo is captured by diver they take him in Sydney, Australian Nemo eventually finds himself in a marine aquarium where he meets a group of marine animals known collectively.
